Mike Bailey is vice president of programming for FLO TV Incorporated, a wholly-owned subsidiary of QUALCOMM Incorporated. In his role at FLO TV, Bailey is responsible for programming, including identifying content opportunities, collaborating with content providers and determining overall content packaging and positioning.

Prior to joining QUALCOMM, Bailey was vice president of sales for Entriq, an International Pay TV company, where he launched broadband services with content providers including MTV, NBC/Universal, 2004 Olympics, Major League Baseball, WWE and Echostar.

Previously, Bailey also served as vice president of programming for a subsidiary of Motorola, where he was responsible for content strategy, licensing and acquisition, and as vice president of worldwide programming for On Command, where he negotiated hundreds of deals with major motion picture studios including Disney, Fox, Universal, Sony, Paramount, MGM, DreamWorks and Warner Bros. Bailey was also responsible for all cable network acquisitions, advertising, promotion and new product development. Bailey holds a B.A. in telecommunications and film from San Diego State University and an MBA from the University of San Diego.

John I. Taylor is Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications for LG Electronics USA, Inc., and its U.S. research subsidiary, Zenith Electronics, a long-time leader in digital HDTV. 

As LG’s senior U.S. industry relations and government affairs executive, and head of the LG Washington office, Taylor represents the company before the U.S. government. Since 2000, he also has served as chief media spokesman and public relations strategist for LG Electronics in the United States.

 

Taylor is Chairman of the Video Division of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and Chairman of the Plasma Display Coalition. He serves on the boards of the Digital TV Transition Coalition, the Media Institute and the ATSC Forum. He also represents LG Electronics on the board of directors of the Major Appliances Division of the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers.

Active in digital television (DTV) since 1988, Taylor is a charter member of the Academy of Digital Television Pioneers (and recipient of its highest honor, the Industry Leadership Award).

Building on years of collaborations with the Advanced Television Systems Committee, National Association of Broadcasters and the Association for Maximum Service Television, Taylor has been working closely with the Open Mobile Video Coalition to establish LG technology as the centerpiece of the new mobile DTV standard and to help build a robust mobile DTV market.

He is former Chairman of the CEA HDTV Promotion Committee, past Chairman of the CEA Communications Committee, former Chairman of the Public Affairs Group of the “Digital HDTV Grand Alliance” and previous PR Chair of the ATSC.

Taylor joined Zenith in 1981 and was named the company’s senior public affairs executive in 1987 and a corporate officer in 1993. (Zenith merged with LG Electronics in 1999.)  He graduated from Northwestern University’s Medill Graduate School of Journalism, Evanston, Ill., with an M.S. degree, and from DePauw University, Greencastle, Ind., with a B.A.

Richard Doherty is co-founder and Director of The Envisioneering Group: a twenty-six year Seaford, NY Technology Assessment and Market Research Corporation. Greg Gudorf, as chief executive officer and chief operating officer, is responsible for setting the strategic vision and bringing that vision to realization for Digeo. His most recent experience as president and chief operating officer at Digeo had him involved in day-to-day operations, with particular emphasis on product delivery and quality, process improvement, integration with MSO head-end systems and business development. Prior to Digeo, Gudorf was vice president of Television Marketing at Sony Electronics, where he was responsible for consumer television product marketing management, including new product and channel development. He also served as Sony’s TV-centric representative to cable system operators and as a board member of the Consumer Electronics Association’s video division. During his tenure at Sony, Gudorf was directly responsible for launching Passage, a key cable industry technology. He also led product development for one of the first HD digital cable-ready DVRs and managed Sony’s TiVo and WebTV product businesses for satellite and cable use. Throughout his more than 30 years in the consumer electronics industry, Gudorf has been involved in sales, marketing, business development, and management for the retail, distribution and manufacturing aspects of the business, with a particular emphasis on network products such as satellite, cable, and Internet offerings. He holds fourteen U.S. patents in the network and interactive TV fields with more than 30 additional patents pending. Gudorf has been published in several industry-related trade journals and often serves as a featured panelist at industry seminars. Gary Shapiro, President and CEO, Consumer Electronics Association

Gary Shapiro is president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the U.S. trade association representing some 2,200 consumer electronics companies and owning and producing the world’s largest tradeshow for consumer technology, the International CES.

Shapiro is an active leader in the development, launch and marketing of HDTV.  He has testified before Congress on HDTV and other technology and business issues more than 20 times.  He co-founded and chaired the HDTV Model Station and has served as a leader of the Advanced Television Test Center (ATTC).  He is a charter inductee to the Academy of Digital Television Pioneers, and in 2003 received its highest award as the industry leader most influential in advancing HDTV.

As chairman of the Home Recording Rights Coalition (HRRC), Shapiro has led the manufacturers’ legal and legislative battle to preserve the legality of recording technology and the consumer battle to protect fair use rights.  Shapiro has held many exhibition industry leadership posts, and in 2002, received the exhibition industry’s highest honor, the IAEM Pinnacle Award. Shapiro also serves on the Board of Visitors of George Mason University, Virginia’s largest university, and is a member of the board of directors of the Northern Virginia Technology Council.  He also served as a member of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Commission on Information Technology.  Shapiro has also been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a “mastermind” for his initiative in helping to create the Industry Cooperative for Ozone Layer Protection (ICOLP).

Shapiro leads a staff of more than 130 employees and thousands of industry volunteers. CEA has won many awards; including several for its magazine, Vision, and awards as a family friendly employer and one of the 50 Great Places to Work in Washington.

Prior to joining the association, Shapiro was an associate at the law firm of Squire, Sanders and Dempsey.  He also has worked on Capitol Hill, as an assistant to a member of Congress. He received his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate with a double major in economics and psychology from the State University of New York, Binghamton.
